Starving Artist

Her words flow and edge the white with black,
Tears fall and smear the delicate etches to grey
The twitching hand holds her life
Reaches out and falls
Away
She thinks
Her only beauty lies in
Her blood
Rolling effortlessly in metallic teardrops
Another smear
On her painstaking effort
Through her head run all of those girls
The one’s who can actually pull off
      skinny jeans
and look beautiful
The hate presses her throat
Like stomach acid
Bile chewing into her tongue
She stares in the mirror and watches her flushed face
Drain and spiral
A giggle joins the gurgling remains
her last meal
And her trembling fingers return to the canvas
To smear again
The charming crimson
